Who We Are :: Our Mission And Values
Emanuel Congregation is your neighborhood synagogue…wherever you live!
Founded in 1880 by fourteen German and Czechoslovak families, today Emanuel is a 400-family vibrant congregation on the north side of Chicago along Lake Michigan. A Reform Congregation, we have had a strong commitment to the Jewish tradition that serves as a foundation for our daily lives.
We are dedicated to worship, learning, and community within our diverse membership and work hard to be a truly welcoming place. We value every person who passes through our doors because we know that our community is strengthened by the perspectives and experiences of all of us. From generations-long members to interfaith couples to gay/lesbian families to new members, we know that each one of us is part of our Emanuel community and strengthens us all. Emanuelites include:
- New families
- Families who have been membersfor several generations
- Single adults, young adults, and seniors
- Interfaith and interracial couples, and
- Those who have more recently identified with the Jewish people.
Our membership comes from the north suburbs to the Near North to the Loop; see why many make the trip to call Emanuel home:
